How We’re Changing Performance Management
A reimagined approach
Agile Performance and Development is about the conversation, not documentation. We want everyone to feel they’re being treated as an adult and a valued member of a global team of teams.
What Agile Performance and Development includes
- Frequent, forward-looking conversations between team leader and team member - Person-centric to meet the need for clear expectations, feedback and development
- Coaching for performance with real-time feedback
- Focus on improving the quality of these conversations
This is a big shift from “Set goals, hold reviews”, to “Identify a few key priorities and continuously coach for performance.”
What we’re moving away from
- Annual, linear, formal structure
- Backward-looking review
- HR-initiated process
- Numeric ratings
- System- and documentation-heavy process
What we’re moving to
- More frequent, ongoing, informal dialogue
- Forward-looking discussions with relevant feedback
- Manager-initiated process that empowers employees
- No ratings
- Person-focused Check-ins with data capture optional to aid communication
The Response So Far
To gauge participation and reception of the new process, we ran surveys of employees and people leaders from the pilot groups. Here are some of the responses.
