Process Expo 2025

Where Capability Meets Vision: Inside KBR Chennai’s Process Expo

KBR Chennai’s First-Ever Process Expo

Showcasing Capability. Celebrating Collaboration. Catalyzing the Future.

Excellence, Innovation, and Purpose-Driven Progress

On March 4, 2025, KBR Chennai’s Process Engineering Department marked a milestone with its inaugural Process Expo — a platform that brought together innovation, technical excellence, and collaboration across KBR’s global network. The event, led by Janakiraman Ramalingam, Department Manager — Process and Safety Engineering, highlighted the department’s evolution over the past decade and its strategic roadmap for the future.

The event saw active participation from both senior and graduate engineers, who showcased deep expertise across Conceptual Engineering, Flow Assurance, Safety Studies, Environmental Engineering, and Dynamic Simulations. Attendees included leaders from KBR’s Houston, London, and Abu Dhabi Operating Centres, such as Rafael Rocha, Keith Howell, Massimiliano Carlos Moradei, and Julie V.

Highlights from the Expo

Scaling Expertise, Strengthening Delivery

As of 2025, the department houses 205 Process Engineers, 17 Safety Engineers, and 73 Designers. A notable increase in senior engineering talent since 2023 reflects the team’s focus on career progression, retention, and technical leadership to support complex projects worldwide.

From Support Centre to Strategic Delivery Hub

The decade-long journey (2015–2025) showcased how KBR Chennai transformed from a support centre into a strategic powerhouse, driving innovation and execution for global clients. The timeline displayed this evolution through key milestones and achievements.

Niche Capabilities with Global Impact

KBR Chennai stands out in specialized domains led by industry veterans. An organizational chart presented the leaders driving innovation and performance in Safety, Environment, Conceptual Engineering, and more.

Digitalization in Action: IPDS Tool

In 2024, the department launched the Instrument Process Datasheet Summary (IPDS) tool — an RPA-powered solution that automates datasheet population. Piloted successfully in projects like P-84 and AGUP-2, IPDS has significantly reduced manual effort and improved accuracy —highlighting KBR’s commitment to smart engineering.

Learning & Development: Shaping Future-Ready Engineers

With 50+ training sessions in 2024, the department emphasized project-specific learning in tools like Aspen HYSYS, start-up operations, and dynamic simulations. Engineers also took part in IIT Madras-led CCUS certifications and industrial plant visits, gaining valuable real-world exposure.

2025 Strategy: Grow Smarter, Lead Stronger

Vision for 2025:

  • Grow without Growing: Focus on skill-building over headcount expansion.
  • Expand Our Reach: Leverage niche expertise for a broader client base.
  • Drive Digital Excellence: Scale tools like IPDS for better project outcomes.
  • L&D Integration: Align training with domain-specific delivery.
  • People-First Culture: Strengthen engagement, recognition, and collaboration.

Reflections & Next Steps

The Expo received resounding appreciation from attendees and stakeholders. Key takeaways included:

  • Enhancing vendor collaboration for detailed design excellence.
  • Supporting other centres with training programs.
  • Hosting bi-weekly cross-centre knowledge exchanges for niche projects.

A Future Fueled by Innovation

KBR Chennai’s first Process Expo wasn’t just a showcase — it was a statement of purpose. With clear intent, robust planning, and a relentless focus on excellence, the Process Engineering Department is charting a new path in digital transformation, talent development, and client impact. As the team enters its next chapter, it does so as a confident, future-ready force — delivering not just engineering solutions, but possibilities that redefine what’s next.
