Global Connections

There are approximately 35,000 KBR employees across the globe. Though we’re separated by miles, we are all connected by our values and shared purpose. In Global Connections, we celebrate our diverse team of teams by highlighting some of the places where we live and work.

In this edition, we’re thrilled to spotlight KBR in India and the remarkable journey our people are on as they exceed expectations in engineering excellence, operations and digital solutions.

KBR in India

A Global Hub of Innovation and Engineering Excellence

"Our ONE KBR success in India holds a special place in my heart," said Jay Ibrahim, president of Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS). The vision, known as the 3-3-3 rule, aimed at serving three sectors in STS — Technology, Integrated Solutions and Technology-Led Industrial Solutions, and reaching 3,000 people within three years. Remarkably, in just two-and-a-half years, we are well on our way to realizing this vision!

In 2009, the primary objective of establishing KBR’s inaugural India office in Gurgaon was to attract skilled and qualified engineers. After a modest start of just a few employees, KBR’s presence in India has since grown to nearly 2,500 employees across five offices in Gurugram, Pune, Chennai and most recently in Bengaluru.

Solidifying Our Regional Presence

KBR’s Bengaluru office opened on September 13, 2023, with a team of 30 employees. Within just one year, the headcount has grown substantially to 125 employees. The primary focus is to expand to 300 employees by the end of 2024 and to establish centers of excellence for specialized competencies such as offshore structural engineering and digital capabilities.

Furthermore, the vision is to evolve the Bengaluru location into the primary execution hub for local clients such as Shell and Exxon, solidifying KBR’s presence in the region and expanding its capabilities to serve clients more effectively.

Looking ahead, KBR’s goal is to further expand its capabilities in India and deliver large projects end to end across all three sectors. The ONE KBR culture in India embodies passion, determination, and unwavering commitment to exceeding expectations, and KBR’s India offices have matured as centers of excellence across various domains.

A Hub for KBR’s World-class Capabilities

KBR’s capabilities in India include consultancy, technology licensing, pre-FEED (front-end engineering design), FEED, detailed engineering activities, digital solutions for operations and maintenance, and energy trilemma and sustainability-focused solutions such as proprietary technologies, catalysts and proprietary equipment. Current STS energy security projects range from LNG to green hydrogen, plastics recycling, carbon capture and sustainable aviation fuel.

KBR’s India operations are also a hub for delivering and deploying digital solutions. We currently have a cross-business and functional team of more than 50 members, who support various digital products and solutions, adding value to our clients and helping them gain efficiencies and benefits across the project life cycle. Additionally, India is actively supporting all KBR businesses through our shared services team, which includes finance, human resources, procurement, legal, IT and internal audit functions.

The next horizon for KBR in India is to evolve as an execution hub for new energy solutions, including hydrogen. This will involve harnessing the collective strength of our teams and leveraging our domain expertise to support STS in achieving its strategy. The success of ONE KBR in India is a testament to the talented, diverse and highly skilled teams, characterized by their passion for learning, excellence in delivery, dedication, and resilience.
