Functional Focus

KBR’s functional teams keep our business moving. That’s why we’re proud to showcase their work, recent wins, improvements and new initiatives, and highlight how their success benefits all of us.

Finance: The Language of Business

Finance is the language of business. As a publicly traded company, KBR is required to regularly disclose our financial and business information to the public, and we want investors, employees and other stakeholders to understand the company’s financial health, growth strategy, and market position. Finance is not just the people who work as part of KBR’s Finance team. It’s an interconnected system that brings all the company’s data together to paint a larger financial picture. “In Finance, we translate what we do in operations into a financial scorecard,” said Jamie DuBray, vice president of Investor Relations. “Sales is the basis for the financial forecast. Procurement is how we spend our money. Everything comes together in Finance.”

KBR helps customers accomplish their most critical missions and objectives, and we do things that matter across the globe. In doing so, we win contracts and earn a fair return on our work. Finance is how we show our results and how external stakeholders value KBR’s contributions.

“Finance is about more than just recording debits and credits,” said Alison Vasquez, senior vice president and chief accounting officer. “It’s not looking backward. Our focus is on the future. We evaluate how we’re doing, where we’re going and how we measure against our long-term commitments. Finance strives to be side-by-side with leadership to inform business decisions on that journey.”

Providing accurate, informative financial information is a critical ingredient to credibility. Vasquez, who worked in our Energy Security business, Investor Relations and Internal Audit before stepping into her current role, said, “Delivering timely, accurate financial results is table stakes for Finance. We challenge ourselves to work as a well-oiled, global machine to do more and deliver actionable information, financial insights and intelligence to leadership as the company maneuvers through this ever-complex world. It’s an honor to work alongside such an incredible group of high-caliber, top-notch professionals. Finance is fun!”

A critical part of the Finance function is explaining where we are in the market — how and where we’re growing, positioned and differentiated. Over the past two years, KBR has seen growth in Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS), and our financial story shows STS increasing its contributions to the company. Because KBR has a unique mix of Government Solutions (GS) and STS work, there are no direct peers that do everything KBR does.

“We had to help our investor community understand how we make money and explain opportunities to the market,” said DuBray. “We held an STS primer and went into detail during our recent Investor Day to show how KBR leverages both the GS and STS sides of the business in key markets.”

She continued, “Finance is an amazing place for people to understand what we do at KBR. Employees are encouraged to tune into the earnings calls, Investor Day and other events where we tell our financial story to the public. It’s a great way to learn more about KBR as a whole and to hear directly from Stuart Bradie and Mark Sopp. Everyone should be invested in the success of the company.”

KBR Investor Day
