Celebrating Pride With KBR

Pride and Allies is KBR’s global employee resource group (ERG) championing LGBTQ+ inclusion. With active chapters in the U.K., U.S. and Australia, Pride and Allies has been busy creating a vibrant space for learning, influence and leadership for LGBTQ+ employees. Let’s take a closer look at their recent initiatives and celebrate the positive impact they’re having on KBR’s culture!

KBR Marches in Melbourne’s Midsumma Pride 2024

In March, KBR Pride and Allies’ Australia chapter joined more than 45,000 people to celebrate the Midsumma Pride March. The group came together with colleagues and loved ones to march down a one-kilometer stretch of Melbourne’s Fitzroy Street. Celebrating all gender expressions, sexualities, experiences and personalities, team KBR marched in branded rainbow merch themed around the three elements of our employee value proposition, Belong, Connect, Grow. Team KBR enjoyed the festival atmosphere with food trucks and live DJs before heading to the official KBR-John Holland after-party at Ellora Cocktail Bar, which was attended by both staff and clients.

Pride Night With the Houston Rockets

On March 25, Pride and Allies members from Houston proudly joined Champion Investor Impact Partner the Houston Rockets for Pride Night!

International Transgender Day of Visibility

March 31 is a global day to celebrate the contributions and lives of transgender and nonbinary people while raising awareness of the reality of discrimination and violence faced by transgender people worldwide. To acknowledge this important date, Pride and Allies members from Houston held an LGBTQ+ virtual lunch-and-learn discussion on transgender visibility and the importance of allyship in the workplace. Pride and Allies members in Australia also engaged in the conversation, spotlighting KBR’s trans and gender-diverse employees.

LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance Day of Service

On April 13, members of Pride and Allies participated in the KBR Galveston Beach Cleanup and LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance’s first annual day of service with the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce and Buffalo Bayou Partnership to help clean Buffalo Bayou and surrounding park spaces.

Pride and Allies Australia Celebrates International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination

International Day against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) is celebrated on the anniversary of May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the classification of diseases. The first IDAHOBIT was held in 2005 and is today acknowledged by millions of people globally. While the remembrance has evolved over these years, the purpose remains the same — to celebrate the progress we have made while also raising awareness for the discrimination that LGBTQIA+ people still face today. KBR’s Perth office celebrated by putting up IDAHOBIT posters with flags of all specific rainbow identities and a rainbow notice board to encourage staff to write down messages of support for the event. Rainbow lollipops were also shared to symbolize spreading love to everyone and to raise awareness of LBGTQ+ rights.

46th Annual Houston Pride Parade and Festival

June is Pride Month in the U.S., and KBR Pride and Allies celebrated with many activities, from charitable events and concerts to workshops on invisible difficulties, T-shirt design contests, employee appreciation events, and participation in the Houston Pride parade and festival.

On June 29, KBR’s Pride and Allies members walked in one of the nation’s largest pride celebrations at the 46th Annual Houston Pride Parade. Every summer, people of every gender, religion, and color flood the streets and get together for a celebration of acceptance, love and joy. Embracing the theme of "You Won't Break Our Pride,” the organization was excited to participate in the festival and parade to show support for the LGBTQ+ community!
