Pioneering Progress: Navigating the Frontier of Innovation at KBR
Innovation is a critical driver of a company's success, enabling it to adapt, change, grow and maintain a competitive edge. At KBR, innovation has always been an integral part of our history. Over the past century, we have constantly evolved and see innovation as a key definer of our future.
Our technology
This year, KBR launched its very own internal, secure, generative AI (artificial intelligence) solution named Project Mariana. The corporate IT team, the experts behind the solution, have successfully built two prototypes of secure generative AI solutions tailored to our organization's needs, including Government Solutions (GS) U.S. proposal efforts and sales. Project Mariana can provide accurate information from various knowledge sources across the business, saving a significant amount of time for our people and allowing more streamlined and efficient work processes.
John Thomson, KBR CIO says, “We are confident we can scale these AI capabilities across the organization and yield beneficial results in a variety of business areas. Currently, the team is developing similar solutions for IT, the GS International business and corporate teams. We intend to continue exploring this exciting technology as part of our strong commitment to continuous improvement, modernization and innovation.”

Our people
The people of KBR are passionate about innovation and recently demonstrated their pioneering mindset and skills at the inaugural KBR Hackathon. The event saw 145 teams from around the world collaborate and work on potential solutions to challenges in sustainability, digitalization/AI and employer branding. The ELT awarded the KBR Hackathon 2023 title to: The Only Ones Who Can Do The Job That Needs To Be Done, from our APAC region. The winning team’s solution will be considered for implementation, demonstrating that the Hackathon is not only a great opportunity for colleagues to come together for this unique experience, but also to put into practice their forward thinking and problem-solving abilities that make a real difference at KBR.
Our world
Innovation serves as a fundamental driver not only for internal initiatives but also, of course, in shaping solutions for the benefit of our clients and their evolving needs. One example is Iron Stallion, a project that features KBR intellectual property developed to digitally track satellites and space debris. It uses levels of AI and machine learning to estimate and validate future events and to identify potential threats. This represents just one among numerous solutions that KBR is actively delivering to contribute to the preservation of safety, security and sustainability within the space environment.
KBR’s innovation journey is a key part of our sustained growth plans, and our employees are the catalysts of creativity, forward thinking, and diverse perspectives that we need to drive constant advancements within our business and for customers all around the world.
