ROBERTO BALDINI
10 years of KBR service Principal Process Engineer Engineering Operation Leatherhead, U.K.
What's been the biggest highlight during your time so far at KBR?
I’ve been working over the past few years on the Johan Sverdrup Project in Norway (Stord), which has been one of the most exciting and successful projects in KBR. In addition to the oil and gas system design, I had the chance to work on several water system designs requiring the best available technologies at the highest Norwegian health standard. Everything in our life revolves around water, therefore I also believe that water will play a main part for the future energy market and will play a bigger role in future KBR Projects.
More recently, I had the opportunity to take part in the Mangara Project (Chad) with the Project Solution Group. This is another exciting and very energetic, versatile team promoting innovation to meet our client requirements in a logistically challenging location in Central Africa. What has stood out to you about working at KBR?
Empowerment and vision. Since I came to KBR in 2010, I’ve been welcomed in a completely new work environment and, despite a strong native accent, I’ve never been judged. Quite the opposite: for instance, my manager gave me the opportunity to take a leadership role in the safety group on the West Nile Delta Project. Through this, I found that if you trust and support your team you easily discover lots of hidden talents and skills you didn’t even know were there. I believe this is one of the greatest parts of working at KBR. What inspires you?
I would definitively say the people around me. I feel a true admiration for people I have worked with and are currently working around me — for their preparation and the quality of work, and, at the same time, their modesty. They are always open to what’s around them. The way they work and their ideas have allowed me to learn more about myself.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Running a marathon! It has always been on the bucket list. Let’s take it out and face the challenge in the near future.

What's been the biggest highlight during your time so far at KBR?
One highlight I have from working at KBR is that I get the opportunity to work with new college graduates and help them transition from student to KBR professional personnel. What has stood out to you about working at KBR?
Something that has always stood out to me is that KBR is a very customer-oriented company but also one that cares about their employees. What inspires you?
As a 10-year cancer survivor, I find inspiration in my family. I had stage 4A bowel cancer and was given a 10% chance of living. At the time, my daughters were in high school. My oncologist asked me what I needed out of my care. I only wanted to see my daughters graduate high school — they have now both graduated college! What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to visit the pyramids in Egypt.

What's been the biggest highlight during your time so far at KBR?
The key highlight was when two of our flight surgeons were selected to become astronauts — Serena Aunon and Kjell Lindgren. To see two of my coworkers/friends training as astronauts and then flying to ISS is something incredible that I will always cherish. I work on-site at NASA's Johnson Space Center and the people associated are amazing and the work we do never gets old or taken for granted. One notable project I worked on was providing administrative support to the Apollo Summit in 2007 in Houston, Texas. What has stood out to you about working at KBR?
The true commitment to employees in all areas. What inspires you?
Knowing we make a difference in the world with the space program. What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to visit the Smithsonian – National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
