Aiming for Greatness
KBR’s Businesses and the Four Words Moving Them Forward
A little more than 100 years ago, brothers George and Herman Brown began plowing land for roads using mortgaged mules in Central Texas. Little did they know that this was the start of a company that is now helping pave the way to Mars.
KBR has come a long way in the past century, transforming into a global company that operates in complex and extreme environments. As the company looks to the next 100 years, CEO and President Stuart Bradie has introduced four principles for the business to live by: passion, teams, trust and sustainability. These four words separate good companies from great ones — and they continue to drive KBR’s development of innovators, thinkers, explorers and dreamers. Let’s take a look at these four principles and how KBR is already embracing these values.
THE CORE FOUR:
PASSION, TEAMS, TRUST AND SUSTAINABILITY
PASSION
Passion means caring. It is the drive to deliver on what is promised and to be the best that we can be. It is the fuel that motivates us to come alongside our teammates and customers to accomplish a mission. It is what inspires us to create innovative solutions in the face of roadblocks. Passion gives purpose and spurs loyalty and hard work, which leads to success.
“Our passion to deliver has enabled KBR to thrive as a company for more than 100 years,” said Stuart. “If we keep building on that passion, it will help to propel our success for the next 100 years.”

TEAMS
Someone once said, “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” Likewise, KBR is a powerful team of teams when working together. Teamwork is a shared commitment to tackle a common goal. In our continuous journey to One KBR, we must chart our course using fairness, honesty and respect. Each person at KBR has unique talents, skills and value. When collaborating together, we foster creativity, innovation and efficiency, giving KBR a competitive advantage.
TRUST
Trust is the cornerstone of KBR’s high-performing culture. When you look at our values, trust is at the heart of them all. Our values tell us how to do business safely, professionally and ethically everywhere we operate. Every interaction with customers, shareholders and each other is an opportunity to build trust by operating with integrity and honesty. We earn it by doing what we say and saying what we do — and following through on our promises.
SUSTAINABILITY
Great companies grow their bottom line while protecting the planet, looking after their people and giving back to the communities in which they live and work. In 2020, KBR is connecting and enhancing its sustainability practices around the globe. Here are a few steps that KBR is taking to create a more sustainable future:
Establish a global sustainability committee KBR has created a special committee to identify key areas across the organization where more sustainable practices — both environmental and social — can be implemented. It is developing a sustainability policy that will help us preserve our planet and benefit the communities we touch as we achieve our business goals.
Minimize our carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions KBR is looking to improve its reuse and recycling practices, use energy more efficiently at KBR facilities, and increase its focus on climate change.
Build on successes of Zero Harm KBR will continue to work to eliminate all health, safety, security and environmental incidents in the workplace. It will broaden the Zero Harm program to include KBR sustainability culture and commitment.
These ideas are transformational and require each of us to participate. We must all work together to build a sustainable tomorrow.
KBR’s BUSINESS AROUND THE WORLD
If you think KBR business segments have little in common, think again. Though separate, we are all working together and leveraging tools, technologies and services to go all out for customers. And, we do this by embracing our four principles of passion, teams, trust and sustainability, combined with our expertise from all around the world.
GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL
KBR’s Government Solutions International carries out its work through GS EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and GS APAC (Asia-Pacific & Australia). GS EMEA is transforming the delivery of public services through its work within government sectors, including defense, policing and security, nuclear, and space and infrastructure, as well as a growing business within the Middle East. GS EMEA’s focus speaks to the heart of a government’s desire to ensure greater performance, value and quality to the public, driving efficiencies through enhanced digital capability. Its talented teams offer wide-ranging capabilities, including program management, training, procurement, logistics, facilities management, risk analysis and benefit analysis, and compliance. Its advisory services use innovative technologies and new ways of doing business, intelligently leveraging our open supply chain. GS APAC successfully delivers large and complex projects and training solutions to government clients. Driven by a commitment to technical excellence and a respect for customers’ objectives, its capabilities include modeling, simulation and training; project and asset management; engineering; logistics support; maritime sustainment; and high-end information and mission systems services. Working closely with its clients and harnessing the capabilities of its industry partners and supply chain, GS APAC builds collaborative enterprise-wide cultures to ensure success. GS International’s focus on teams is vital to the business’s success and can be seen in a recent initiative on digital policing in the U.K., where KBR is implementing solutions to effectively network forensic capabilities and deliver specialty services for U.K. law enforcement.
Reinforcing its established links with UK Policing, KBR was the principal sponsor of an inaugural Digital Forensics event in London last December.
GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS U.S.
KBR’s Government Solutions U.S. (GS US) ensures mission success for customers on land, at sea, in the air, in space and in cyberspace. It drives innovation by combining engineering, technical and scientific expertise with its full life-cycle capabilities, mission knowledge and future-focused technologies.
GS US is divided into three subsets: Logistics, Space and Mission Solutions, and Engineering. Logistics provides base and contingency operations, asset management, prepositioned stocks and operations maintenance. Space and Mission Solutions focuses on a spectrum of services for human health and performance, astronaut training, satellite and human spaceflight ground control, mission operations, and other areas. These efforts complement our work in Engineering, where it supports cybersecurity and security; space, missiles and aviation systems; and sustainment and acquisition engineering. It also has one of the largest independent flight test organizations in the world.
The long-standing trust in our capabilities can be found in a recent major task order assisting the U.S. Navy in deploying leading IT solutions around the world. Under this contract, KBR will partner with the Navy to support global information grid and net-centric operations and implement cutting-edge IT capabilities.
ENERGY SOLUTIONS
KBR’s Energy Solutions division comprises two global groups: services and delivery. KBR’s Energy Services provides a comprehensive portfolio of work, including: specialized engineering; construction; program and construction management; expert process and technology capabilities; staff augmentation; maintenance; and solutions for the hydrocarbons industry. These services range from small, standalone contracts to world-class mega projects.
Energy Delivery focuses on large engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contracts for facilities that produce liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas to liquids, or ethylene and ammonia. For LNG, the team works with all commercially available technologies, while for ammonia and ethylene plants, they use KBR’s own proprietary-licensed technology. This group is seen as not just an EPC company, but a technology and EPC company that understands the chemical process happening inside the plant.
Energy Solutions’ reputation for sustainability is an important factor in their success. Just last year, KBR was awarded a condensate refineries project contract for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The main objective of the project is upgrading gas condensate to valuable refined fuel products, reducing the country’s dependence on costly imported fuels, which aligns with KBR’s gas monetization and asset optimization strategies.
In December 2019, KBR was awarded the Project Management Consultancy Services contract by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for front-end engineering design (FEED) definition at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS
KBR’s Technology Solutions division specializes in developing and licensing energy-efficient and cost-effective process technologies for refining, petrochemicals, ammonia and syngas, and inorganic and specialty chemicals. KBR enhances the technical and economic positions of global energy and derivative companies through the use of their proprietary technology licenses, process equipment, catalysts, digital solutions and related technical services. Technology Solutions works closely with customers to determine the optimal approach to deliver the best results across the entire service offering. This includes: licensed technology; trademarked equipment; chemical agents and performance; asset integrity and reliability; turnaround and maintenance; diagnostics and consulting; productivity assurance and process improvement; and end-of-lifetime services. That’s a lot to take in, so let’s break it down. KBR is passionate about developing new technologies that are good for the environment and safe for people. KBR has a passion for innovation, combined with our commitment to deliver high-end solutions, such as its new and environmentally friendly K-PRO™ Propane Dehydrogenation Technology. We are addressing stringent environmental regulations, fluctuating profit margins and a number of other processing challenges that operators in the refining and petrochemical segments face today.
CELEBRATING THE NEXT CENTURY
KBR has evolved over the past 100 years to become the dynamic organization it is today. What was once a small construction company is now a multifaceted, multibillion-dollar organization that provides solutions for a variety of markets. KBR serves customers in more than 80 countries with operations in nearly 40, capitalizing on its capabilities globally to create a unique, competitive advantage.
As it serves clients around the world, KBR is striving to embrace passion, teams, trust and sustainability in all environments — whether at the bottom of the ocean or outer space. With these principles at its helm, KBR is prepared to meet the challenges of the next century.
