Roads
Today’s roads are increasingly complex. Drawing on our proven expertise, we work on roads projects to ensure Perth commuters get where they’re going, faster and safer. We take an innovative approach to the planning, design and delivery of all our road infrastructure projects; from motorways to single-carriageway road and access improvements, to bypasses and ring roads. As Perth continues to grow, new infrastructure to ease congestion is increasingly necessary – however we always design with the potential impacts to the environment and the community in mind. Our teams implement solutions to minimise environmental impact and engage with communities so we can deliver the best, most holistic outcomes for Perth residents.

Rail
Resilient and reliable public transport infrastructure is critical for a growing city like Perth that aims to improve social equity and reduce carbon emissions. We are proud to be working as part of the MetCONNX Alliance, on the Byford Rail extension. Located in the city’s southeast, the extension between Byford and Armadale will remove six level crossings and deliver a new shared user path.
The new station at Byford will include 600 parking bays, a new bus interchange, and a new pedestrian connection across the rail line; while the current Armadale Station will be rebuilt as an elevated station to ease road congestion and improve safety. Set to improve traffic flow and safety and provide the community of Byford with stronger connections to the state’s capital, the project will enable Byford residents to travel to Perth in approximately 42 minutes, meeting future demand as the area’s population doubles by 2026.

Energy transition
KBR works as the engineering partner and project manager for the Yuri Project – a first of a kind deployment in Australia generating renewable hydrogen for production of ammonia with off-grid intermittent renewable power via electrolysis. The project includes a 10 MW electrolyser powered by 18 MW of solar PV and supported by an 8 MW battery energy storage system, generating renewable hydrogen for use in Yara Australia’s ammonia facility.
KBR is a world leader in ammonia technology with approximately 50% market share of licensed capacity. Since 1943, KBR has licensed, engineered, or constructed over 250 grassroot ammonia plants worldwide. From electrolysis of water and air separation to ammonia synthesis, KBR’s process offers an end-to-end power to ammonia performance guarantee, putting us in a strong position to continue to support future clean energy projects in Western Australia and across the country.

Critical minerals
KBR was appointed as the Project Management Consultant by Arafura Rare Earths for the Nolans Project in late 2019, through which we work in collaboration with our sub-consultant Wave International Engineering as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT). The IPMT is project managing the Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure for the ~A$1b+ Nolans Project to source critical rare earths minerals in Australia’s Northern Territory.
KBR is also supporting Arafura to plan the operational roll out of the corporate sustainability strategy and a comprehensive suite of sustainability offerings for the project.

Sustainability
Businesses and organisations are under significant pressure to respond to climate and environmental risks, while providing investors, employees and customers with a clear vision of a sustainable future. They must also seize on the commercial and growth opportunities presented by climate and sustainability in the market.
We partner with governments and businesses to develop and deliver sustainability strategies, initiatives and capital projects that create community prosperity, organisational benefits and long-term value. We utilise digital platforms and solutions to create efficiency and value.
Our solutions focused teams utilise KBR’s Integrated Sustainable Solutions Framework to respond to corporate drivers for change. We provide solutions throughout the full organisational and project lifecycle, from strategising, to planning, to delivery and ongoing management and improvement.

Maritime
We are a recognised leader in the delivery of maritime projects, with a strong portfolio of transport, and Defence projects; from initial concept through to construction support. Working closely with KBR’s Defence Infrastructure team, the Maritime team is supporting the design of new and upgraded facilities required at HMAS Stirling to support up to two US Virginia Class Submarines and one UK Astute Class submarine rotating out of Stirling from mid-2027. This includes new and upgraded maritime infrastructure to support home berthing, maintenance and force protection of nuclear powered submarines.
We are also working on an electrical infrastructure upgrade project for Mid West Ports Authority, conducting a preliminary investigation to develop concept proposal, to establish typical specifications for HV equipment relevant to the 3 MVA load upgrade. Our team is focused on all aspects of port and coastal Infrastructure, such as asset condition assessments for roads (Fremantle Ports), fire safety upgrades (Mid West Ports) and on sustainability.
Our Maritime team also plays a significant role supporting KBR’s overseas offices, delivering front end engineering studies and design on energy projects, with an emphasis on the Middle East, Singapore, India and Europe.
Our outlook is growth, providing services to public and private port owners and operators, to coastal shires and councils, and clean energy exporters.
