From blue to green

While green hydrogen is the preferred option, there are significant economic, technological, infrastructure and logistical barriers to scaling up an export-scale green hydrogen industry in Australia. Drawing on our domain expertise, we offer ‘Blue2Green’ pathways to a future export‐scale green hydrogen industry that can help progress Australia’s energy transition. A Blue2Green approach focuses on developing green hydrogen, while recognising the role of blue energy during the transitional phase.

We work with customers across the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to end-use applications, providing cutting-edge technologies for hydrogen production, including steam methane reforming, autothermal reforming, and electrolysis. We also help plan, design, and deliver hydrogen infrastructure, such as storage facilities, pipelines, and refuelling stations to enable the seamless integration of hydrogen into the grid.

Sustainable biofuels

Sustainable biofuels that can be used in existing infrastructure play an important role in the global energy transition and are produced from renewable energy feedstocks or carbon rich sources through a chemical conversion process.

KBR boasts unrivalled experience in sustainable biofuels and has the ability to efficiently recycle end-of-life waste plastic and convert it into a reusable feedstock for plastics or other valuable chemicals production.

Sustainable aviation fuel

One of the most exciting applications for sustainable biofuels is within the aviation industry. KBR’s PureSAF℠ technology, developed by Swedish Biofuels AB and exclusively licensed via KBR, provides a compelling way for the aviation industry to adopt green energy alternatives and cut carbon emissions.

The global demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is expected to exceed 75 billion metric tons of per year by 2040, and KBR is working closely with industry to help support the aviation industry’s transition toward a cleaner, greener future.

Carbon capture and decarbonisation

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) plays a significant role in decarbonising Australia’s energy sector while bridging the gap with reliable energy supply throughout the transition. At KBR, we recognise the importance of this bridge as it enables a shift away from fossil fuels while maintaining energy security and supply, as well as addressing emissions from existing infrastructure.

As a global leader in sustainable technology, our complete lifecycle solutions begin with supporting businesses in developing an investment strategy for CCS including emissions management, carbon accounting, feasibility studies, transaction advisory, market and regulation support, technical support, and asset performance. We then design and deliver the solutions, from operations, and maintenance, to decommissioning.
