Education
KBR is one of the leading engineers in the education space, having delivered numerous major school and university upgrades in recent years, including the Adelaide Botanic High School expansion, Mercedes College, Morialta Secondary College, Norwood International College and the Flinders School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics building at Tonsley. Alongside our partners, we deliver specialist learning facilities, including sports facilities such as courts, ovals, and stadiums. Our concept and detailed designs support complex upgrades to existing schools as well as new greenfield developments.
Health and medical
Our ability to deliver complex hospital and health precinct projects across Australia is second to none. We worked as the engineering design partner on the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Glenside Mental Health Campus, and are currently part of the building engineering services consortium for the $3.2Billion New Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.
We’ve also designed for highly specialised medical and research facilitates, such as the Flinders University Health Medical and Research Building and UniSA Health Innovation Building, ensuring specialised design for the containment of biohazards and lab gases.
Sports & recreation
Sports are deeply embedded in Australian culture, with all athletes – from amateur to elite – requiring state of the art sports facilities. Providing concept and detailed engineering design, in addition to building services and fire safety, we’ve helped deliver numerous sporting facilities, including the world-class South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) facility and the $92 million Netball SA Stadium redesign. Our engineering sciences team also provides noise, vibration and wind assessments for major sports stadiums across the country, including designing for pitch health. Not limited to sports, we also delivered the recent upgrade to the historic Thebarton Theatre.
Housing & precinct design
From large-scale residential developments to urban precinct design, KBR provides civil and structural engineering services for complex multi-use environments. We’ve worked in partnership with Renew SA on the Seaton Housing Development, as well as Lot Fourteen in Adelaide, providing multidisciplinary engineering services, as well as masterplanning, development application (DA) lodgement, schematic design, and tender preparation.
Defence
In Australia, our naval infrastructure legacy began over 40 years ago with the design of the original Collins Class submarine facilities and infrastructure at the Osborne Naval Shipyard. This legacy continues today, with KBR involved in much of Navy’s last 10 years of investment in maritime infrastructure; several major sustainment and shipbuilding roles; designing the masterplan and concept design for the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard at Osborne; and the detailed design for the facilities and infrastructure to deliver the Submarine Rotational Force-West Priority Works at HMAS Stirling.
Transport
From bus shelters and train stations to maintenance and stabling facilities, KBR provides civil and structural engineering, and well as buildings services for transport buildings and structures. We also provide specialist services, like noise and vibration assessments, fire safety engineering and protective security to keep passengers safe. Projects have included the stabling and maintenance facility and control centre for North West Rail Link, Sydney Metro Northwest; the Frankston Station Redevelopment in Victoria, and the Depot for Sydney Metro Northwest at Cudgegong.
