While the overwhelming majority of respondents love the work they do, as you can see from the figures above there are still opportunities to support growth and development. To attract and retain the best talent, we recognize how important it is to build on the tremendous capability our people already have by providing opportunities to develop your confidence and skills, and to progress into more advanced technical or managerial positions over time. Our customers value KBR’s deep domain knowledge, as well as the scientific, technical and engineering capability of our experienced employees. At the same time, to continue to innovate and sustain our long-term performance we must attract early-career professionals into KBR; we received many comments on the importance of young talent.

“KBR should continue developing younger talent to lead the company into the future.”
What we’re doing to support your career and development
At KBR, we promote a 70/20/10 approach to career development, where 70% is experience, 20% is mentoring, and 10% is formal training. Ultimately, you own your career, but we recognize that needs to be supported by your manager and our HR and Talent teams.

Other examples of progress we’ve already made are our Global Leadership Development Program and the Manager Excellence Program, designed to strengthen our leadership culture by helping develop executive and management skills. We also recently launched the ONE KBR Tech Fellows program, which recognizes, rewards and harnesses the capabilities of distinguished technical leaders across the company. KBR Communities of Interest are another avenue we’ve made available to encourage cross-company collaboration and knowledge sharing in key areas of our business including artificial intelligence, cyber, smart maintenance and many more. For employees early in their careers, our IMPACT employee resource group is a tremendous resource for networking and learning more about the company, as well as an opportunity to gain exposure with leaders from across the business. Members can also hear directly from Stuart Bradie, KBR president and CEO, in a series called Fireside Chats, and take advantage of virtual Vision Series webinars with KBR subject matter experts. Finally, we’ve also launched a pilot of a new approach to performance management that centers on quarterly Check-in conversations. Instead of an annual review with a numeric rating, these Check-ins will focus on aligning priorities, providing future-oriented coaching and real-time feedback, and discussing development, growth opportunities and aspirations. As the pilot progresses, we’ll determine the best approach for all employees to ensure you obtain regular, constructive feedback on your performance and development to support your career with KBR.

What's next?
We recognize the critical role that managers have in supporting our employees and ensuring KBR is an employer of choice. The People Perspectives Survey showed us that our employees are very positive about their managers, and it is gratifying to see how strong the connection is between managers and their teams. At the same time, we want to support newly appointed or promoted front-line leaders as they transition into this important role, so we are piloting a new targeted development program specifically to support this population. As well as helping develop leaders’ communication, influencing, emotional awareness and business skills, this program will better equip managers to fully engage their teams and support their people’s development and career progression. Further details will be shared after the pilot. While many employees are excited to develop their careers by taking on managerial responsibility, the technical skills of our people fortify KBR’s real competitive advantage. With such a diverse range of solutions offered across the globe, employees’ technical development is often best supported through local initiatives linked to specific areas of expertise. However, in 2022, we intend to build out our approach for technical talent development by sharing best practices across KBR, which will enable more employees to continue their professional and technical development.
