Research & Development:

How Kord is Providing Technical Solutions and Advancing the Future of Directed Energy

Directed Energy Center of Excellence Facility - Huntsville, AL

Kord operates a Directed Energy Center of Excellence facility that provides enhanced directed energy system design, fabrication, assembly, and indoor test capabilities. The facility includes a state-of-the-art 3,000 square-foot Directed Energy Lab and cleanroom that supports a wide range of development and testing operations.

In addition to the lab, the facility provides 11,000 square feet of high bay space that includes a 10-ton double girder overhead crane capability. The high bay is also equipped with advanced electrical support systems throughout, indoor high energy laser test and verification ranges, industrial exhaust removal system, and a full complement of other assembly-support equipment.

Next Generation Training

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS OFFER PROMISING INNOVATIONS TO KEEP THE U.S. PREPARED ON THE MODERN BATTLEFIELD

3D MODELING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Kord is developing the next generation of training regime for the United States Army and future government programs using virtual simulations. As society continues to move into the new age of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, Kord is employing these technologies to help train and educate customers on a more thorough level. With 3D modeling and artificial intelligence, users can now make mistakes – and learn how to fix them – in a digitized world without huge, detrimental consequences in the process.

KORD ADVANTAGES Kord uses novel devices like the HoloLens 2 smart glasses to educate via 3D modeling and virtual reality. These innovations help soldiers better understand tactile fields without physically being present. They also include realistic visual and audio experiences to aid in learning. Kord’s use of these products gives trainees the opportunity to get a physical grasp of the 3D space of where vehicles and weapons systems are pointing and how they react in different environments.

The training headset and/or tablet includes a smart screen for each individual to view a mixture of virtual modeling with reality, dubbed a “mixed reality” experience. This form of next generation training brings high-level benefits to our customers, including:

  • Increased information intake and retention rate (up to 90%)
  • Networking over long distances and interactive discussions
  • Risk-free simulations of real-life scenarios
  • Test and evaluation of capabilities without repercussions
  • Leadership oversight of training exercises on the digital battlefield
