Engaging Your Manager through an Agile Performance Discussion

This collaborative, ongoing process between your manager and you is called the Agile approach (often referred to as the Check-in Conversation) and is a wholistic, frequent, and forward-looking discussion that:

  • aligns goals and priorities
  • communicates feedback and provides coaching
  • develops stronger performance

Being receptive to feedback from your manager and mentors can be difficult because you know the effort and obstacles you must overcome to achieve outcomes. The value lies in your ability to process and integrate information to become more effective.

You are empowered to schedule your Check-in Conversation to ensure performance in your current role is aligned with the customer’s priorities and to seek feedback and coaching when you are struggling to meet expectations. Reference the Performance Management website and embedded Employee Resources page to ensure a flourishing Check-in Conversation. During your Check-in Conversation, you and your manager may decide to enter goals in Workday to ensure alignment with KBR’s strategy and track progress. You may also add development items in Workday that identify skills and knowledge to enhance your career success and growth.

Lastly, invest the time editing and updating your Workday Career Profile (also called your Talent profile) at least once a year (every January when you check tax, and benefits deductions is a great time). This process allows for self-reflection and identification of career development items and interests while simplifying the application process when identifying an opportunity within KBR. When applying for a job through the KBR career job posting network, clicking “Apply” will invite you to update your profile at that time or send the information in your career profile to the posting.
