FNC Reach Gold Award

Frazer-Nash achieves Gold DERS Award: A milestone achievement for our company.

We are thrilled to have been awarded our Gold Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (DERS) award, a significant achievement for Frazer-Nash Consultancy. The DERS encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for businesses that pledge to support the Armed Forces community (AFC). Having this award in such quick succession from our Bronze award in March 2023, to Silver in May 2023, and now achieving Gold is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team of teams across the business. (Employing members of the Armed Forces community - Armed Forces Covenant)

The journey to securing the Gold DERS award has been one of collaboration and commitment. Numerous members of staff have gone above and beyond, demonstrating perseverance and each have played a crucial role in this success.

This award is not just a reflection of individual contributions but a celebration of our continuous commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Progressing to Gold is the ultimate demonstration of our support to this community and cementing ourselves as an employer of choice to Service Leavers and Veterans seeking new roles.

The Gold DERS award is a momentous achievement that truly reflects all our values. As we celebrate this accomplishment, we are also looking to the future and further promoting ourselves as a great place to work and one that appreciates the unique skillsets from this community.

A big thank you to key contributors – Steve Brown, Hannah Wiltshire, Pete Lucas, Charley Eccles, Ruth Vaughan, Simon Parsons, Stacey Gurr, Gemma Whitley, Chris Hardy, Ed Pizii, our active reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and the wider Armed Forces Community.

I am extremely proud of our teams and business in achieving Gold Status! This doesn’t happen by chance. It requires dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence for the work we do for our Armed Forces Community. Together, we’ve reached new heights and set a shining example of what can be accomplished with passion and perseverance.

Sarah Wilkes, Managing Director Frazer-Nash Consultancy

What an amazing achievement. This award recognises all the hard work put in by many of our veterans and reservists, plus the journey we are on at Frazer-Nash. We continue to raise our game, living our values and putting our people at the heart of our business.

Tony Marsh, Armed Forces Community Executive Sponsor

Achieving Gold ERS award status is a fantastic achievement, and I am immensely proud of how our Armed Forces Community pulled together to not just tick the boxes on the form, but pull together an excellent precis of evidence. Gaining Gold status is not just about extra leave for Reservists, it's about supporting our Armed Forces Community with socials, charities, transition from Service, recruitment etc. We have a great committee set up and are always looking for volunteers to help with things so please get involved.

Armed Forces Day Quiz Night

A Joint KBR / Frazer-Nash Armed Forces Charity Quiz Night

On the evening of June 27, camaraderie and competition filled the air across Frazer-Nash branches as the Armed Forces Community hosted a charity quiz night across the business. Teams turned out in Leatherhead in conjunction with KBR, Bristol, Glasgow, Gloucester and Plymouth in support of Armed Forces Day on the 29 June.

Contributions raised supported several local charities to each office: Combat Stress, Spirit of Normandy Trust, Erskine, South Atlantic Medal Association, Plymouth Veterans and Family Hub and The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. Each of these organisations plays a vital role in assisting veterans, active service members, and their families, offering everything from mental health support to financial aid and rehabilitation services.

A total of £3366.00 was raised, a combination of donations with a fantastic night being had by all.

Our Australian Colleagues Commemorating Anzac Day

25 April 2024 was Anzac Day in Australia, the National Day of Remembrance for those who were lost in conflict and war. Anzac Day is a time to stop and reflect on what the Anzac spirit is and how it remains relevant to many, if not all, Australians today and into the future. For those not familiar with Anzac Day the following article will hopefully convey the significance of the day to Australians and our cultural identity.

Our Australian colleagues took time to reflect and remember at one of the many dawn services or Anzac Day parades, by pausing to reflect in their own way on the sacrifices made by the few to provide a safe and secure society for us all.

What Anzac Day Means to Australians

Thank you to Damien Farrell, Group Business Manager, for this small contribution.

When Britain declared war in 1914 Australia was automatically placed on the side of the Commonwealth. Having only been a federated nation for 13 years the Australian Government committed itself to supporting Britain as it was eager to establish a reputation among the nations of the world. In 1915 Australian and New Zealand infantry forces were deployed to assist a British operation aiming to open the Dardanelles Strait to the allied navies and capture the Turkish capital, Constantinople (now Istanbul), an ally of Germany at the time.

This combined force known as the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula under British command. Landing just before dawn on 25 April 1915 the Anzac force met fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders and the Gallipoli campaign quickly became a stalemate. After 8 months of ferocious and determined fighting, the Anzac forces evacuated. Both sides suffered heavy casualties with over 8,000 Australian soldiers being killed. Although there was no military victory, the Anzac forces displayed great courage, endurance, initiative, discipline, and friendship. Such qualities came to represent the “Anzac spirit” and the 25 of April soon became the day on which Australians remember the sacrifice of those who had died in the Great War. The official Australian war correspondent from Gallipoli, C.W Bean, described the Anzac spirit as follows:

"By dawn on December 20 Anzac had faded into a dim blue line lost amid other hills on the horizon as the ships took their human freight to Imbros, Lemnos and Egypt. But Anzac stood, and still stands, for reckless valour in a good cause, for enterprise, resourcefulness, fidelity, comradeship, and endurance that will never own defeat."

Later in 1924, Bean would promote the notion that Gallipoli was the genesis of true nationhood for both Australia and New Zealand by writing:

“Anzac Day now belongs to the past and during the war all energy was concentrated on the future but the influence of the Gallipoli Campaign upon the national life of Australia and New Zealand has been far too deep to fade… it was on the 25th of April 1915 that the consciousness of nationhood was born.”

Anzac Day has evolved beyond the initial WWI remembrance and now commemorates the contributions of all service personnel, across all armed conflicts up to the present day.

In conjunction with the above from Damien, your AFC are pleased to provide further material from our colleagues in Australia. Please do use the provided link to explore how they commemorated this important day. KBR commemorates ANZAC Day 2024 around Australia (sharepoint.com)

Australian KBR employees commemorated ANZAC Day 2024 with events around the country hosted by our Armed Forces Community (AFC) Employee Resource Group (ERG). KBR veterans and reservists highlighted the significance of Anzac Day and shared firsthand stories about their military service and post-military life.

A special thanks to Declan Lethborg, Jerold (Jerry) Naden, Gerard Bagnar, Nick Tate and Alex Jaeschke who shared their stories as veterans working within our business.

Gratitude and acknowledgment:

Thank you to all the KBR office managers who contributed to the success of the Anzac Day events. Your support to those who have served/continue to serve is greatly appreciated.

Lest we Forget.

Ten Tours-For Gold Accreditation-FNC

This event included an overview of the Army in the South-West, Regular and Reserve Army career opportunities, the Cadet Forces and the Ten Tors 24 Challenge and received a briefing from the National Colonel of the Cadets on how industry can continue to support the Cadet Force.

There were also a few Frazer-Nash folks there in a support capacity. Jacob Boskett Williams attended the Weekend in the Ops Room as a Royal Signals Reservist, and James Morris was working in the Treatment Centre overnight on Saturday as a civilian volunteer.

Blesma Charity Golf Day

KBR and Frazer-Nash Armed Forces Community co-sponsored Blesma, The Limbless Veterans Charity Golf Event. It was great working to continue to support our veterans and our teams not only had a good day but contributed to raising more money through a live auction at the end of the day.

Supporting our KBR Adult Cadet Volunteer, Louie Ruck

On 13th Aug 24, our KBR AFC ERG Chair, Simon Davies visited Frimley & Camberley Cadet Corps, supporting our KBR Adult Cadet Volunteer, Louie Ruck, giving presentations on companies who work alongside MOD. KBR also arranged for two PWRR reservists to attend, bringing some of their weapon systems in for the cadets to handle and discuss. Also in attendance were the Trustees and Major Alasdair Goulden, Secretary of the Queens Regimental Association.

Pride and Veterans ERG-KBR

KBR and Frazer-Nash have become one of the first defence focused organisations to join the Pride in Veterans Standard (PiVS), led by the charity organisation Fighting with Pride (FWP) in support of LGBT+ veterans, serving personnel and their families. We join alongside other notable UK organisations such as Tesco, NHS trusts and local government councils.

Simon Davies, Chair of KBR’s Armed Forces Community employee resource group (ERG) said, “In our commitment to supporting veterans, reservists and military spouses, the Pride in Veterans Standard recognises the resilience, courage, and unique experiences of all LGBT+ veterans and of those currently serving. We will be working closer with the Pride + Allies ERG and Fighting with Pride to create an even safer and respectful space for everyone to flourish together.”

Fighting with Pride is a charitable organisation registered on 19 October 2020, the 20th anniversary of the complete lifting of the ban on LGBT+ service. Their aim is to help thousands of people recover from the injustices suffered by the ban and restore the pride they once had when serving their country.

Caroline Paige MBE, CEO of FWP said, “As we begin Pride Month, we are excited to welcome KBR and Frazer-Nash as the 200th organisation to join Fighting with Pride’s Pride in Veterans Standard. PiVS is a programme that supports organisations in delivering inclusion for LGBT+ Veterans, serving personnel, and their families.

Keir Gravil, Co-chair of KBR Pride & Allies and Frazer-Nash Business Manager said, “Frazer-Nash and KBR have a proud history of supporting veterans and providing a safe and welcoming space for those joining us from the armed forces. Adopting PiVS and working with Fighting with Pride takes us one more step along the journey, linking two communities together, and providing tailored support to those veterans who are also members of the LGBT+ community.”

At the heart of KBR and Frazer-Nash's shared values is a commitment to creating diverse and inclusive work environments in which every member of their team of teams feels safe, supported, respected, trusted and valued.

Outreach with RAFA

Armed Forces Day Outreach Campaign

Thank you so much for volunteering your time to support the RAF Association’s Armed Forces Day outreach campaign. As we prepare to mark Armed Forces Day tomorrow, we have reached an incredible milestone in our national outreach campaign, having jointly called almost 5000 members of the RAF community. We couldn’t have achieved this without you.

Checking on the wellbeing of potentially vulnerable members of our RAF community is an important task. As a result of the calls you made, more of our RAF community are now receiving the ongoing help and support they need.

As many of you will have experienced, even those who don’t require support from us appreciate us taking the time to call. For others, your calls were life changing.

One of our volunteers spoke to a 91-year-old veteran who was struggling after coming out of hospital. He was feeling low and panicking about the prospect of being alone at home whilst continuing his recovery. He will now be receiving support through the RAF Association’s casework team.

If you are interested in continuing to volunteer, we are also keen to hear from you. We are currently looking for volunteers for the RAF Association’s Connections for Life service, which provides regular telephone friendship calls matching volunteers with individuals who are lonely or isolated. If you would like further information, or would like to provide some feedback, please do email outreach@rafa.org.uk. Thank you,
